BRITISH designer Holly Fulton has targeted America as a key market she’s set on tackling. The NEWGEN winner is currently sold in the UK, Japan, Russia and Italy.

“Fingers crossed it’ll happen – I get a lot of response from US customers but I have to tell them ‘sorry you can’t buy it unless you have it shipped from the UK,'” Fulton told us. “I’m not sure I’m the typical American look but I think my collections might go down well in LA. A lot of my stuff is very bright and almost a bit flamboyant which I think fits in quite well. At the moment we get a lot of LA based interest so we’ll see how it goes.”

Fulton, who recently announced a collaboration with Smythson (- read about it here), revealed that her forthcoming collection will be full of surprises.

“I’m very excited about it and I’m bringing forward a few new strands too,” she said. “As well as swimwear I’m launching my accessories line – some of which is extremely high-end. I wouldn’t have been able to make some of these pieces in my own studio – I’ve had to call in specialist help.”

Following the success of the label, the Scottish-born designer has had to call in reinforcements.

“I’ve had to hire two assistants which is so great and it makes everything more feasible,” Fulton said. “It’s been a great year and I just want to keep growing as a business.”
