MADONNA has found her new clothing line, Material Girl, the subject of a lawsuit – brought about by California clothing company LA Triumph last Thursday, who claim it had been using the name since 1997.

Madonna’s line, which she collaborated on with her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes, went on sale in Macy’s just two weeks ago.

LA Triumph reportedly said that it has been “continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under the Material Girl brand since at least 1997, and Madonna and her new-found company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand”.

According to Reuters, LA Triumph wants the judge to rule that the use of “Material Girl” creates “deception” in the marketplace. It is also asking that all profits from Madonna’s line and company be given to them.
