DESPITE Richard Nicoll’s reputation as one of London’s leading design talents, he isn’t immune to pre-show nerves.

“I’m feeling excited but obviously nervous about the next show – it’s that funny period of realisation when there aren’t enough finished garments to accurately judge how things are looking,” he said. “It’s the period when ideas are mid translation from paper to fabric.”

What might we expect to see?

“Topshop’s venue at Waterloo is amazing and I’ve designed a collection to suit it,” he said. “Also Angie Bowie is a vague muse for this season – the shapes are a mix of grown up sports and are Forties and Seventies-inspired.”

Does he have any must-have vices to see him through the run-up?

“I can’t live without coffee, and it sounds annoying but I’m trying to stick with the gym throughout the lead time to the show to keep stamina up,” he told us.
