Bergdorf Goodman threw a cocktail party to celebrate the opening of Dries Van Noten’s men’s and women’s shops at the Fifth Avenue retailer last night. “We’ve been dreaming and scheming for a long time,” Linda Fargo, the store’s senior VP, said of the work involved in getting the Belgian designer’s wares into Bergdorf’s. Indeed, Van Noten will mark his 25th anniversary in business next year. That’s a lot of foreplay, but the wait appears to have been worth it. Not unlike his freshly opened Quai Malaquais men’s boutique in Paris, the third floor shop-in-shop is stocked with antiques handpicked by the designer himself, and there’s an exact copy of the blue couch that’s such a delightful perch from which to try on shoes at his women’s store in the City of Light. Upstairs at BG during dinner, Fargo read from a prepared toast by Bergdorf’s CEO Jim Gold: “We were incomplete without each other…but now we feel whole.” Here’s some more good news: The store has quite a lot of the designer’s fantastic, hard-to-find Fall collection in stock.
