Christopher Nolan’s Inception debuts stateside this Friday, but we’ve been hawkishly following its premieres abroad. Yeah, yeah, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cillian Murphy aren’t bad to look at, and we loved Ellen Page in Juno (and even more in those Cisco commercials), but it’s their co-star Marion Cotillard who is bringing the glamour. The multi-talented actress has already dazzled in two completely different beauty looks, choosing a middle part, soft waves, pink cheeks, and a fuchsia gloss in the U.K., and opting for a sleek, finger-combed pompadour, nude lip, and black rimmed lids in her native France. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what the Oscar winner comes up with for this week’s paparazzi frenzy on our shores. Which of her ensembles do you like best so far?

Berlin fashion week is now in full swing, and Calvin Klein threw a fashion show and epic party to celebrate the occasion. (A few Teutons can be forgiven for being distracted by the Germany/Spain World Cup game, which the brand screened at the fête.) As you’d expect, plenty of house favorites, like newly signed face of Calvin Klein Underwear, Zoe Saldana, and Diane Kruger, who wore Calvin Klein Collection to the Met ball this year, were on hand. The dress code? All Calvin, of course. Saldana wore a pale green cutout CKC dress with the platform, contrast-heel pumps Francisco Costa showed for Resort. Kruger, on the other hand, went even more classic-Calvin minimal in a sleeveless white mini-shift and towering, lug-soled platform sandals. So who wore it best? Do you like Zoe’s edgier, of-the-moment look, or do you prefer Diane’s pared-down, old-school chic?

Of all the revivals currently playing on the fashion landscape, Carven is relishing un certain succès. By 8 p.m. on Monday, several of Guillaume Henry’s jackets for the label for Fall—notably a black one with shaved fur trim and a slim wraparound belt—had already blown out of the brand’s pop-up shop inside the Didier Ludot boutique at the Palais Royal. The designer himself was on hand—alongside a few Carven-clad models, a slew of Parisian fashion plates, and the ubiquitous Jared Leto—for public conversation with Ludot (above right, with the designer), with whom he created a limited-edition L.B.D. for summer, based on an archival Carven piece of the couture historian’s.

“We called it a ‘conversation’ about a dress, because it’s about old and new, but without pretension or being stuck in the past—it’s really easy, like Champagne,” said Henry. Of the original model, a pleated, draped 1956 dress in less-than-mint condition, Ludot added, “Now this was a dress that lived!” Together, the designers revisited the original idea in technical organza, belting it for a sporty, modern twist (middle), Henry explained. Displayed front and center in Ludot’s shop window, the two dresses are backed up by a handful of vintage numbers—a red bustier dress, a simple dress in precious lace, a summery yellow and orange print—topped with current Carven creations, like a capelet or a leather jacket, for example. Back in the garden, a model wore this summer’s L.B.D. with towering silver pumps. “Already in the fifties, Carven did not differentiate enormously between day and night,” noted Henry. “Even when she used precious materials, she kept it simple. For me, that’s modernity.”

Stay far, far away: The Soho Hollister store is infested with bedbugs. The store is closed while the label attempts to de-louse (or, we guess, de-bedbug-ify).

The reign of the supes continues: Inez and Vinoodh shot Daria Werbowy for YSL’s Fall ‘10 campaign.
It’s been speculated about for months, but Naomi Campbell (and, for the record, Mia Farrow) will be called to testify at the war crimes trial of Liberia’s Charles Taylor, who allegedly gave Campbell a large diamond.

The latest It bag—the mochila, the traditional satchel created by the Wayuu tribeswomen of Colombia and Venezuela? They’re coming to Barneys, they’ve already sold out of J.Crew, and Proenza Schouler’s doing PS1’s in mochila fabrics for pre-fall. So, in a word—yes.

And this, apparently, is Carine Roitfeld’s home. Now you know.

More news on the Evan Rachel Wood-for-Gucci front. Not only will the actress front the print campaign for the Italian brand’s forthcoming women’s fragrance, Guilty, but she’s also starring in a film directed by Sin City’s Frank Miller to promote the new scent. Miller’s first film/fashion crossover effort details a sexy love tryst set against a futuristic cityscape shot in his classic cartoon style. All 60 seconds of it sound like they’d look pretty stellar in Imax.

The new 10 percent tax on indoor tanning takes effect tomorrow. We’d say get your fake-baking in now, but you know better than that.

All the hype about that lock of Napoleon’s hair that was removed after he died in exile in 1821 and subsequently put on the auction block in New Zealand has finally came to a, um, head. The 190-year-old strands were bought for $13,000 yesterday by an unnamed London collector.

Tyra Banks’ online engine to “provide [her] audience with inspirational and instructional content to help them look and feel their best” is a go. Look out for Web-based beauty and fashion content from the model-turned-talk show host in the very near future. Hopefully this means streaming even more crazy antics [] to our personal computers.
