Rockers and editors rubbed shoulders last night after getting past one of Fashion’s Night Out’s tightest guest lists: the launch of Alexa Chung’s capsule collection for Madewell at the latter’s Soho store. J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler, The Strokes, Lou Doillon, Devendra Banhart and boyfriend Alex Turner of the Artic Monkeys all showed up to help Chung celebrate her launch (and in some cases—guess which—moonlight as DJ). Prior to its being opened up to the public, the space was overrun with insiders swooping up silk blouses with Peter Pan collars and schoolgirl dresses in velvet and silk; Chung describes the style as “nothing too sexy, nothing too flashy.”

But for someone who’s dressing none too sexy and none too flashy (in her own words, at least), Chung certainly sets off a lot of flashbulbs and inspires a lot of trends. “It’s fucking weird to be honest,” Chung says with her usual directness. “I saw this girl tonight buying this skirt”—she motions to the mid-calf white one she’s wearing, from her own collection—”and for a moment I thought, ‘No! That’s mine!’ And then I realized and thought, ‘You can have it too.’” The appeal of the Alexa style is what will send clothes flying off the racks, and that, after all, is the point. For her part, Chung vows she won’t change her look. “I’ll stay true,” she said.

There were rockers aplenty at her party, but there was one in particular she was hoping to catch after FNO wrapped. “We might go see Iggy Pop if he’s playing,” she said. “I plan on getting very drunk.” No word on whether she did the latter, but Iggy Pop did play—at POP’s Don Hills bash. He rocked his own signature style, too: shirtlessness. Like Alexa, many may copy it, but Iggy’s never giving it up.

IF there’s one person you’re going to take festival fashion advice from it’s Alexa Chung – whose Barbour and Breton combinations have quickly earned her style stripes.

“I usually just pick something I’m comfortable in and shove a Barbour over it because nothing is fun when you’re freezing cold,” says Chung, who’ll be heading to V Festival this weekend. “Wrap up warm, take lots of layers, a good scarf, check the weather reports, invest in some wellies. Don’t experiment with something you’ve never worn before, it needs to be comfortable,” she advises.

Aside from staying warm, what is it that Chung looks forward to most about festivals?

“Watching bands and getting drunk,” she says, recalling her first festival memory to be begging her mum to let her go to Reading at 15 and being sent off “with embarrassing things like carrots and humous in my backpack”.

And when she’s not standing in a field, what does she prefer, modelling clothes or designing them (she’s the new face of Lacoste and launched her debut fashion collection for US label Madewell in February this year)?

“I like designing them because you get to play around and make things you wish existed a reality,” says Chung.

Alexa Chung will be heading to V Festival 2010 to host Channel 4’s exclusive coverage. Catch all the highlights from the festival on Channel 4 and 4Music from August 21 and 22. Visit www.channel4.com/t4 for more information.

The parade of neutrals began about a month ago at the Twilight premiere, and it kept on coming. And the color reared again this week in the form of silky material with a subtle, sexy sheen on outfits worn by Shanae Grimes, Alexa Chung, and Vanessa Hudgens, confirming that beige is THE color (or non-color) of summer 2010. Shanae Grimes and Alexa Chung both attended Mulberry‘s pool party on Tuesday night in golden, shimmery nude outfits — Shanae wore a champagne-colored dress with a bell skirt and jeweled straps, while Alexa wore a satiny button-down shirt with casual denim cut-offs. Vanessa Hudgens jumped on the nude-colored train this week as well, attending the premiere of Charlie St. Cloud in a floaty backless shift dress by Reem Acra. It’s the perfect hue to show off your summer tan!

Want the look? You’ve got plenty of affordable options. To score a look like Shanae’s, try this ivory-colored dress from J. Crew (now on sale for only $149.99). For Alexa’s sexy-but-simple look, try this satin shirt by Adele Fado ($140); just don’t forget roll up the sleeves and unbutton the front to keep the look casual, Chung-style. And finally, if you love Vanessa’s simple backless sheath, check out this one from Fluxus for $75.

It’s sweltering hot in New York right now, yet leather shorts continue to gain in popularity as a year-round luxe item.

Last month, former MTV television personality Alexa Chung donned a pair of black slashed leather shorts by Yves Saint Laurent for the brand’s Belle d’Opium perfume launch in NYC. True to her famously quirky style, Chung matched the high-waisted shorts with a roomy gray tee, a granny cardigan and a Mulberry bag for a high-fashion librarian look.

Over the weekend, pop songstress Kylie Minogue wore the very same shorts in a summery white for a return trip to London. She also matched the shorts with a baggy blouse, but added some diva attitude with metallic platform sandals.
