Beckham Attack

PETA has denied that it’s planning to attack Victoria Beckham, after rumours that it was angered by the star’s new animal skin handbags.

The Daily Mirror reports this morning that the animal rights group planned to douse Beckham in “a bucket of animal blood – cow or lizard – at her next UK public appearance”. However, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), told us that – while these rumours are unfounded – it had sent the singer-turned-designer a video to persuade her against using animal skins.

“We don’t believe that Victoria has chosen to ignore the plight of these animals, we just worry that the information didn’t make its way to her,” a spokesperson from PETA tells us. “No one with an ounce of compassion could watch PETA’s footage and still promote exotic skins as accessories. With all of the luxurious, cruelty-free alternatives at her disposal, there is simply no need or excuse for Victoria to include any skins in her collection.”

The Beckham Lady

VICTORIA BECKHAM knows what sells. The fashion world has buzzed with a rumour that she has hooked up with Katie Hillier to launch a line of handbags – and with the two of them putting their heads together for it, we’re already sure we want one… at least.

Still in the early stages of its conception, the collection will balance Hillier’s technical expertise and flare – her work with Marc Jacobs has given her superstar fashion status – with the guaranteed desirability that Beckham’s design vision has become known for, silencing any one-time sceptics into stylish admiration.

News earlier this week that Victoria has persuaded her husband to design a menswear line has been denied by the Beckham camp – but frankly we’re looking forward to her handbags much more. Form an orderly queue please.

This week, Alexander Wang launches his first ever video campaign (pictured), starring Abbey Lee Kershaw and lensed by Craig McDean. Karl Templer and Fabien Baron styled and creative-directed the spot, which will launch right here on Style.com this Wednesday at noon EST—so stay tuned.

English fashion bible i-D is celebrating its 30th birthday this month, with a 200-photo portfolio and three covers, all by Nick Knight. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Lady Gaga get the birthday-cover honors.

Victoria Beckham is adding bags to her line, designed with help from the English accessory maven Katie Hillier, who’s worked with Marc Jacobs and Luella Bartley. But with new handbags of her own, what will she ever do with all those vintage Birkins?

Team Beckham

VICTORIA BECKHAM has recruited her husband David to launch a new menswear line under her successful fashion label.

“Victoria has been trying to persuade him to do it for a while and he’s finally succumbed,” a source told the Daily Mail On Sunday. “She has reassured him that he has an eye for fashion.”

David will be in charge of designing the new range which will be launched for spring/summer 2011.

“David is hoping to produce an entire range of men’s couture clothing of fitted suits, smart day wear and an evening range – and Victoria thinks it will go down a storm. Meanwhile, she is working on her fifth season and is going from strength to strength.”
